INT. THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE, MID-DAY

(DESDEE SUPERVISES SOO-JIN, THE NEW SERVER, WHILE ATTENDING TO OTHER CUSTOMERS AT THE RESTAURANT. GABRIEL IS AT A TABLE EATING ALONE AND THERE IS A BOTTLE OF SAKE ON THE TABLE. LAZARO IS OFFSTAGE IN THE KITCHEN CHECKING INVOICES.)

Gabriel: How are things with you, sweet Soo-jin? Indeed you are the reason that I come here.

Soo-jin: And I, in turn, wait for your presence. And why were you a week away? The days pass more tedious eightscore times!

Lázaro (offstage): Desdee, come in here a minute!

(DESDEE EXITS TO THE KITCHEN. GABRIEL WATCHES HER GO.)

Gabriel: Forgive me, Soo-jin. I have with leaden thoughts been pressed. But I shall in more continuate a time, strike off this leave of absence. Have a shot with me, Soo-jin.

(SOO-JIN GRABS A SHOT GLASS AND TAKES A SEAT AT THE TABLE.GABRIEL RAISES HIS GLASS DISCREETLY, SOO-JIN FOLLOWS SUIT AND THEY TAKE A SHOT.)

(GABRIEL INHALES.)

Gabriel: Work on, sweet medicine, work on. Soo-jin, I have a gift for you.

(GABRIEL HANDS SOO-JIN JAE-SAHN’S BANDANA.)

Soo-jin: From whence came this? (flirtatiously) You got this from another girl.

Gabriel: That is but a silly guess.

Soo-jin: Come now, where did you get it from?

(GABRIEL TAKES A LOOK TOWARDS THE KITCHEN.)

Gabriel: This neither do I know, I found it in my room. I fancy the design. Ere it be demanded, as I know it will, I’ll have to make a copy, but for you this one I’ll give. But keep it in your room for no one else to see, so that it remain a gift for you and me alone.

Soo-jin: Oh! Thank you!

(SOO-JIN STUFFS IT PARTIALLY INTO HER PANT POCKET. GABRIEL REACHES OVER AND STUFFS IT ALL THE WAY IN. SOO-JIN GIGGLES)

(GABRIEL TAKES SOO-JIN’S HAND AND KISSES IT. SOO-JIN BLUSHES. LAZARO ENTERS THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE MID-KISS.)

Lázaro (with a stern look upon his face): Gabriel.

(GABRIEL LOOKS UP.)

Lázaro: If spells such as these strip you of your lieutenancy, make sure you kiss each finger before you return her hand.
